The Southwest’s Golf Treat

I first visited Mesquite, Nevada to play golf more than 10 years ago. I have been back more than once. The golf is terrific, the lodging and gaming good, and it is an easy destination to get to. I usually fly into Vegas and make the smooth drive up I-15, past the Vegas Motor Speedway and am in Mesquite in about an hour. You can also fly into St. George, UT and will be even closer.
Mesquite golf is no longer one of the golf world’s best kept secrets. Mesquite is now one of golf’s best playgrounds, with a handful of courses that can rightfully be labeled ‘premium’.

I said on my first visit that golf is the heartbeat of Mesquite’s economy and that has only increased in the decade+ since my first visit.
Situated in the Virgin River Valley, Mesquite is a terrific option for the golfer-gambler who might want something a bit more low-key than Las Vegas, but with all the gaming options available and the excellent golf courses more accessible and often more budget friendly.
Simply put, some of the best packages in desert golf and the best values in hotels/casinos are available here. Table game minimums and green fees are reasonable and the amenities will meet or exceed your expectations.
On my most recent visit (April ’26), we played Falcon Ridge, Wolf Creek and Conestoga. I would happily play them all any day. We stayed at the Eureka Casino Resort, an employee-owned operation in the midst of a $100 million reinvestment project with seen and as-yet unseen improvements throughout the property. As part owners of the hotel resort, the workers here take an extra degree of pride in their work and are consistently helpful in making your stay enjoyable. There are seven high quality courses within 10 minutes of Eureka and our shuttle drivers were spot-on when we needed to be in the van to make our early tee times.
The Courses We Played:
Falcon Ridge is a 6,569 yards, par-72 course that is routed through the hills and canyons of northwest Mesquite. You will see and play through dramatic elevation changes with wide scenic views. In addition to elevation changes and undulating greens, Falcon Ridge has enough water feature to get your attention. It is a very playable course but will challenge your game from the first hole.
The second course on our agenda this trip was Wolf Creek and I will say at the top that there are at least 15 holes that could be called ‘signature’ holes. The views start on the first tee and don’t end until your round is complete. If you play it from the tips, which we did not, you will see a course stretched to more than 6,900 yards with an almost unheard of slope and rating of 75.4 and 154. This is one of the most photographed courses anywhere and for good reason. If you plan on sharing your golf experience when you return home you will want to impress your friends with the scenery you see here. For many, the golf is more important than than the views and Wolf Creek will satisfy that as well. Conditioning is superb, the greens immaculate and is playable from the correct tees.

Our third round on this whirlwind trip was Conestoga, which was the Mesquite course I would choose if I could play only one. Opened in 2010, Conestoga is set within the Del Webb active adult community of Sun City, Mesquite. Routed through canyons with moderate elevation changes, rock formations and interesting water elements, designer Gary Panks created a wonderfully designed course.
A final note about Eureka and their multi-million dollar renovations. One of the best of the upgrades is what they have done with Gregory’s Mesquite Grill, their upscale restaurant. From the appetizers through the entrees and into the desserts, the offerings are spectacular. As I did ten years ago I started with the Seared Ahi Tuna. This pan-seared tuna crusted in sesame seeds, served with sweet chili and soy sauces sets your appetite for what is to follow. The filet with sautéed mushrooms paired with au gratin potatoes could not be topped. Finishing with the Crème Brûlée concocted in a rich vanilla bean custard and topped with a layer of caramelized sugar finished my meal spectacularly. Along with an above average wine list you will not be disappointed after eating at Gregory’s.

The folks at Eureka will help you set up your Mesquite golf packages, arranging for tee times, transportation if needed, meal reservations and any extras you want to add.
